Bid bonds

Bid bonds so the proposal actually counts.

Most public work in Ohio will not accept a bid without a bid bond. We issue construction bid bonds for contractors in Cleveland, Beachwood, and across the state — including accounts that have had trouble getting one.

What a bid bond does

A bid bond goes in with your proposal. It tells the owner you will sign the contract at the bid price and post performance and payment bonds if you are awarded the work. If you walk away after award, the surety covers the owner’s cost of going to the next bidder.

Without it, many public bids are non-responsive. The number on the bid form does not matter if the bond is missing.

When Ohio contractors need one

Municipal work, school districts, county projects, and most federal jobs require a bid bond — often 5% or 10% of the bid. Private owners and GCs ask for them too. If the instructions to bidders name a bid bond, you need it on the bid date, in the form they specified.

We place bid bonds as part of a construction surety program so you are not scrambling for a one-off the morning of the bid.

Cost and timing

Bid bonds are often included at no extra charge once a surety has approved your file. First-time accounts need an application, work-on-hand schedule, and financials. After that, bid bonds are frequently same-day.

If a bid is already on the clock, call or text the date and the amount. We will tell you what is realistic.
