What a maintenance bond covers

It backs defect and warranty work after the job is done. If something fails in the warranty period and you do not fix it, the surety steps in. Specs usually name one or two years. Some utilities and municipalities ask for longer.

It is not a substitute for a performance bond. The performance bond gets you to completion. The maintenance bond covers the period after.

When to place it

The cheapest time is with the performance and payment bonds, as part of the same program. We can also bond a warranty on a job that is already in the ground if the owner is holding retainage or a final acceptance until the bond shows up.
